WoW Forever Merchant’s Favor – crates, reputation and rewards

Keep your first Waylaid Crate. At level 10 it can put a profession recipe within reach: the Shipping Label quest alone pays 50 Merchant’s Favor. Here’s where to go, what to put in your crate and when a trip to camp is worth the cost.

Updated:

Your first delivery at level 10

Look for Waylaid Crates while questing or buy an empty one at the auction house. Any class or profession can make a delivery. Fill it on the character you want to buy rewards on. Favor is tracked per character, and sealing the crate binds it to you.

  • Right-click the crate and read its options. For Apprentice Textiles, choose either 40 Linen Cloth or 20 Light Leather. One complete stack of the listed quantity is enough.
  • Pack the materials, seal the crate and take it to your faction’s clerk. On your first run, check your bags for a Shipping Label. Use it to start the introductory quest.
  • Turn in the label for 50 Favor and 2,000 reputation. You get this reward once per character, in addition to the payout for the crate.

Alliance – find Marcy Baker in Redridge

From Elwynn Forest, follow the road east into the Redridge Mountains. The Azeroth Commerce Authority camp is at Three Corners, on the western side of the zone. Hand your crate to Marcy Baker at about 9.7, 70.9.

If you cook, check Kalsey Sanden’s recipes before you leave. Huey Sunnydale sells the Pack Kodo in the same camp. You can check the requirements on your very first trip.

Horde – find Dokimi outside the Crossroads

Go to the Crossroads in the Barrens and take the west exit. The Durotar Supply and Logistics camp is just outside. Dokimi takes sealed crates at about 50.1, 29.4.

Aza’bek sells cooking recipes and Okamache sells the mount. If you’re coming from Orgrimmar, bring a crate along the next time your quests take you to the Crossroads.

How much Favor does a crate give?

Check the rank and quality before buying materials. A white ore crate and a green ingot crate of the same rank pay different amounts. These figures are reported turn-in values before any Legacy bonus.

  • An Apprentice Herbs crate accepts 20 Peacebloom or 10 Earthroot, among other options. Check which full bundle costs less before you buy.
  • Payouts for blue and Elite crates are also unconfirmed. Check the reward in game before spending heavily on one.

What should you buy first?

I’d spend the first 50 Favor on something you can already make. With Cooking 25 you can buy Recipe: Venomous Smoothie for 30, leaving 20 from the label. If you’re working on another profession, visit its vendor and check which skill you need before buying a pattern.

  • Need reputation for your purchase? Take a Craftsman’s Writ, make or buy what the customer asks for and deliver it to the NPC named in the quest.
  • For the Kodo, start doing writs well before reaching 6,000 Favor. Otherwise you can afford the reins and still have to wait for Exalted.

Spend less gold per point of Favor

Price the whole bundle. Say Linen Cloth is 3 silver each and Light Leather is 5. The same Apprentice Textiles crate costs 40 × 3 = 120 silver to fill with cloth or 20 × 5 = 100 with leather. Pick leather and keep 20 silver for the same 5 Favor. Add the price of the empty crate if you bought it.

While leveling, I turn crates in when my route already passes the camp. When buying specifically to earn Favor, divide the cost of the empty crate and its materials by the expected payout. Two cheap white crates may beat one expensive green crate.

The Performance Bonus Legacy perk gives a 5%, 10% or 15% chance, depending on rank, to double the Favor from a crate. Budget for the regular amount and treat a double payout as an earlier trip to the vendor.
