Where to change your appearance
In Stormwind, look behind the Mage Tower in the Mage Quarter for Fyrenz Vishonar, around 48.1 / 84.4. In Orgrimmar, Mon’ye is in the Cleft of Shadow, around 46.3 / 53.8. These pins identify the area; check the upper level in Orgrimmar.
If you are already in Dalaran, Spellweaver Thaldris is in the tailoring shop, around 17.8 / 60.6 on the Alterac Mountains map.

Make sure your outfit is saved
Open the appearance editor at the NPC, select an outfit slot, then an equipment slot. Try the chest and shoulders first; they quickly establish the colours and silhouette. Add the smaller pieces afterwards.
Check the displayed price before saving. A preview alone has not applied the outfit. Give the saved look a recognisable name, such as “Travel” or “Dark leather”.
You do not need to win every item for its appearance
Eligible party members collect the appearance when uncommon or rare bind-on-pickup dungeon loot is looted. Do not roll Need solely for that look. Epic raid loot does not use this shared unlock; it matters who the item binds to.
Treat a permanently learned appearance as a collection entry, not another item you must keep in your bags. Check the entry before storing or passing on gear solely for its appearance.
Collected does not always mean usable
The armour type of the equipped item must match the appearance. A cloth chest does not become plate just because your paladin can wear plate. For locked appearances, also check level requirements and the warning tooltip.
At level 60, level restrictions lift for otherwise valid collected appearances. Other restrictions still apply. An outfit cannot give an empty equipment slot item stats.
Finish one look before expanding
You do not need a huge outfit library to experiment. Finish one existing slot and inspect it from behind and with weapons drawn. That helps avoid paying for corrections you could have spotted earlier.
Editing an outfit and adding another storage slot are separate purchases. Use the amount shown in each confirmation. Decide your budget first; do not sacrifice training or travel money for the perfect belt.
Your outfit and other players’ display settings
If a friend cannot see your outfit, it may still be saved correctly. Seeing other players’ transmog is a separate preference. The Classic preset starts with it off; Enhanced starts with it on.
You can change the display setting at a transmogrifier. It does not stop you collecting appearances. If your own look is unexpected, check the saved outfit first, then armour type and warnings; do not change every setting at once.
